Sounders U23 inflict first home defeat on Foothills U23 in four years

Last time Calgary lost at home was 2015, also to Sounders U23

soundersu23CALGARY, Alb. — The Seattle Sounders U23 defeated Calgary Foothills U23, 2-0, on Sunday north of the border. The result makes the USL League Two Northwest Division even tighter, with just seven points separating the top five places.

Coming into the weekend, the Sounders U23 was the last team to defeat Foothills U23 on its own field, which it did in a 4-0 win on June 28, 2015. Since then, the Foothills went on to win two USL Northwest Division titles and a national championship in 2018.

Forward Pablo DeCastro scores twice on Sunday to make the Sounders U23 the first team to win in Calgary in nearly four years. First, he converted a penalty kick in the 62nd minute, followed by a free kick from just outside the penalty area 10 minutes from time.

The fourth-place Sounders U23 return home for an important match against Cascadia rival Portland Timbers U23 on Friday, 7:30 p.m. at Sunset Stadium in Sumner.
