Brian Wambaa’s death shakes Tacoma soccer


TACOMA, WA— The bright smile, infectious personality, easy-going charm and superior soccer skills of Lakewood’s Brian Wambaa have left a lasting mark on Tacoma-area soccer.

It’s all still too new and painful to fully come to grips with, but Wambaa died on Monday morning along I-5 (news story.) He was 25 years old. Friends have been reacting with grief and shock on Wambaa’s Facebook page.

brianWambaa played college soccer at Tacoma CC after graduating from Mount Tahoma High School.

In the 2012-13 school year he was honored as WIAA Athlete of the Week in soccer when he scored 4 goals in a match for Mount Tahoma.

More recently he remained active as an adult player and was working towards a starting position with Nido Aguila Club America Seattle in the Western Washington Premier League.
