Through adversity, both expected and unforeseen, Gonzaga women’s soccer finished 10-4-4 — winning 10 games for the second straight year — and earning a fourth-place finish in the West Coast Conference.

The season got off to an unusual start, with smoke from the August fires forcing the Zags to cancel two of their early nonconference home games.

“We’ll never know for sure the effect of missing those games,” head coach Chris Watkins said. “We weren’t able to find as much rhythm offensively because we missed the chance to go at teams we were athletically superior to and also to play some of our younger players.”
