BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: goalWA.net likes to shine a spotlight on soccer-related businesses in the State of Washington with our series “Business Spotlight.” This time we take a look at Soccer Pathways, a business concept that began in Washington and is expanding to serve clubs and players across the country.
The Soccer Pathways concept was initially developed in Puyallup, Washington and is the creation of Steve Richards and Roby Stahl. It formally launched its full suite of club enhancement programs on January 1st, 2018. It is designed to be the only program to teach a true player pathway from the youngest ages through college competition.
Steve Richard’s explains his approach to working with student players: ‘’The future depends on what you do today. Your attitude determines your direction and ownership of your future.’’
The three major offerings of Soccer Pathways are a College Development Program, College Identification Camps, and an international education partnership with Marbella United FC of Spain. The College Development Program includes a comprehensive guide to playing collegiate soccer and a self-training educational program that can be customized to serve individuals, teams, and clubs.
The College Development Program helps students take the first step to obtain the knowledge and skills to build a clear pathway and comprehensive introduction to the college world. It is a “how-to” course that helps students create their own unique plan. The self-training program exposes students and their parents to key knowledge into the college recruiting process, financial considerations, player identification camps, and connecting with coaches so that students can find the college that it the best fit for them.
Soccer Pathways College Identification Camps are offered in Washington state and across the country with upcoming events in South Carolina, Washington, and Georgia. The upcoming camp in Washington is hosted in conjunction with the Puget Sound Surf Academy. It is scheduled for January 26-28, 2018 at Starfire in Tulwila. More information and registration is available at http://pspl.surfsoccer.com/college-id-camps.
“I have had the opportunity to work with Steve in a number of capacities from organizing a league academy to developing a curriculum for a state coaching staff, as well as assisting him in team training. He is one of the very few coaches I’ve had the chance to work with that is beyond proficient in all of these facets of being a top-level coach and director! The ability to think outside the box to create development opportunities for his players to move on to the next level has shown to be extremely successful.” – Vernon Croft, Director of Coaching Surf Academy at the Puget Sound Premier League
The international partnership with Marbella United FC of Spain offers students the opportunity to earn their high school diploma, bachelor’s, or master’s degrees. This includes an option to attend the American College in Spain for their freshman and sophomore years followed by a transfer to a university in the United States for their junior and senior years. The program now has over 12,000 former students representing almost 40 different nationalities.
In addition, Soccer Pathways has a unique partnership with Roby Stahl that offers the Fundamental Pathways four-part curriculum levels: Fundamental, Premier, Elite College Development, and College Identification. This unique methodology enables students to be equipped both technically and tactically to play any field position using instinctively good field decisions. The result is the development of players with increased confidence who not only aspire to higher goals, but are able to achieve them.
“Roby Stahl is one of the best trainers of advanced technique available in the United States today. His teaching techniques are innovative and his vision concerning the soccer player of tomorrow is refreshing” – Anson Dorrance, Head Women’s Soccer Coach UNC-Chapel Hill & Former US Women’s National Team Coach, World Cup Champions (1991)
In addition to describing numerous service and product offerings, the Soccer Pathways website also has a Library of Value containing free articles and videos.
