Reign FC re-sign Fishlock, Utsugi for 2018

reignfc-croppedSEATTLE, WA— Seattle Reign FC has announced the re-signing of Welsh international midfielder Jess Fishlock for the 2018 NWSL season. This will be Fishlock’s sixth season with the club. Per team and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

“It is an honor to re-sign with this club. Seattle Reign is in my heart and I am excited for the future,” said Fishlock. “I hope to bring this club back to its prior success – it is a dream of mine.”

The midfielder appeared in 20 matches for the club during the 2017 season, starting in all 20. Scoring seven goals, one shy of her career best, and tallying two assists, Fishlock was named to the NWSL Best XI for her efforts. It marked the fourth time she has earned the honor.

Fishlock was named the co-captain with defender Lauren Barnes ahead of the 2017 NWSL season. In 2017 the Welsh international reached 100 all-time NWSL appearances, including postseason and regular-season matches, and will reach 100 regular-season appearances during the 2018 season. All of Fishlock’s appearances have come with one club – Seattle Reign FC.

“Jess is one of the best midfielders in the world – when she is on the field she has an ability to run the show,” said Seattle Reign FC head coach Vlatko Andonovski. “I think that every coach in the world would like to have Jess on their roster. I’m extremely excited to be able to work with a player of her caliber.”

Seattle Reign FC Re-sign Midfielder Rumi Utsugi

SEATTLE (November 30, 2017) – Seattle Reign FC has announced the re-signing of Japanese international midfielder Rumi Utsugi for the 2018 NWSL season. Per team and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Utsugi appeared in 20 matches for the club during the 2017 season, starting in 18, and tallied one goal and two assists. As a key part of the Reign FC midfield, Utsugi had the highest passing accuracy among Reign FC midfielders, and the second highest passing accuracy among all Reign FC field players.

The Japanese international was voted Team MVP by her Reign FC teammates for her efforts during the season. Utsugi had either an assist or a goal in three consecutive matches in 2017.

“Rumi is probably one of the most creative players in the league,” said Reign FC head coach Vlatko Andonovski. “Her decisions in the build-up phase are superb. She is very comfortable on the ball and is always an option for her teammates. She’ll have a crucial role in establishing the style of play.”
