TUKWILA, WA— A dramatic day ended in the best possible way for Highline College of Des Moines, WA as the Thunderbirds swept the NWAC Soccer Championships with 1-0 wins for both the Women and Men.
The Women got a golden goal to top previously unbeaten Peninsula College 1-0 in overtime. Jewell Boland rocketed home a line drive early in the extra session. Read the NWAC match report here.
In the Men’s Final a goal from Dane Evanger in the 59th minute was enough for Highline to top the Whatcom Orcas 1-0. The NWAC Match Report is now online here.
For the Thunderbird Men it was their third-ever NWAC title (2004, 2014). For the Thunderbird Women it was history and an end to a streak of finishing runners-up.
The Women won the title in 1995 but then have finished losers in the title match in 1996, 2003, 2015 and 2016. Now a breakthrough comes in 2017 with a win over the school that beat them the two previous years.
