TUKWILA, WA— The Whatcom Orcas and Highline Thunderbirds advanced to the 2017 NWAC Men’s Soccer Final with wins on Friday at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.
The Final will be played at 5:15 PM on Sunday, November 12 at the same venue. Whatcom last won the title back in 2006, the school’s only men’s soccer trophy. Highline last won it all back in 2014. The T-Birds also won the NWAC in 2004.
Whatcom 2-1 Spokane
Camron Miller’s goal in the 70th minute held up for the Orcas as they edged Spokane 2-1 in the NWAC Semifinals. The Thunderbirds had taken a 1-0 lead back in the 9th minute of play when Zach Wanne scored off of an assist from Keegan Coovert. Spokane got even in the 34th minute when Chase Reidt scored an unassisted goal. Eric Jones assisted on Miller’s winner.
Highline 4-1 Walla Walla
It was the Adama Kante show for the Highline Thunderbirds as he scored a hat trick to rally Highline over Walla Walla. Kante had goals in the 40th, 56th and 70th minutes (penalty kick). Walla Walla had taken a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute on a strike from Christian Torres (assist to Alejandro Espana.) 11 minutes later Highline got even at 1-1 on a goal from Riley Johnson (assist to Tyler Black.) After that is was all Kante.
