TUKWILA, WA— The Peninsula Pirates and Highline Thunderbirds have advanced to play in Sunday’s NWAC Women’s Soccer Final after Friday’s results at Starfire Sports Stadium.
The Pirates and Thunderbirds will face off for the trophy at 2:30 PM on Sunday back at Starfire. It’s a rematch of last year’s final won by Peninsula. Overall the Pirates have won the NWAC three times (2012, 2013, 2016) while the Thunderbirds have been to four previous finals (1996, 2003, 2015, 2016) but have never claimed the title.
Peninsula 4-0 Tacoma
The Pirates returned to the NWAC Final by stopping the playoff run of the Tacoma Titans. Akari Hoshino made two saves to record the shutout for Peninsula.
Highline 3-2 Clark (Penalty Kick Shootout)
It was a match of high drama in the other semifinal as the Thunderbirds fought past the Penguins of Clark College.
It all came down to penalty kicks. The graphic below shows how that went. The Penguins’ run was followed closely back home in Vancouver.
