Fire & Ice (Illinois) wins 2017 WPSL Title

color_wpsl_logoAll it took to win the 2017 Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) was a little fire and ice – literally. A club from Illinois called Fire & Ice Soccer Club won the championship in early August.

Fire & Ice came from behind to beat the San Diego SeaLions 2-1 in the semifinals. In the championship match against the Gulf Coast Texans, Kelsey Dinges scored both goals as Fire & Ice once again rallied for a 2-1 win.

“To come back like we did in both games, I think that says a lot about our team’s character and desire,” Head Coach Lindsay Kennedy-Eversmeyer told the St. Louis Dispatch. “Kelsey had a pair of outstanding weekends to finish out the season, but we got great play from everyone. It just seemed like all the pieces of this team came together for us this season. Everybody on the team, including our bench players, contributed when we needed them most. We played hard and we played together.”
