(NPSA release) The NPSA B03 Navy Bellevue team continued their amazing run of success by securing the club’s first Regional title at the very first attempt this past weekend (June 24-27). This team, led by Director of Coaching Adam Nowland, now holds the PSPL Superleague 1 title, WA State Cup Gold Divison title and the US Club NW Regionals title.
It certainly wasn’t easy with the first game ending in a 2-1 victory against a resolute ISC Gunners A team thanks to a brace from NPSA Captain, Dilon Spahia. After spurning multiple chances to score, NPSA went a goal down midway through the second half to a long range strike that nestled in the top corner. This setback seemed to galvanize the NPSA team and, as all good teams do, they raised their level and came from behind to secure the victory.
The second game was against Global Premier Soccer (GPS) from Oregon. The NPSA team made a quick start going two goals up early in the first half through goals from Antheny Leal and Adrian Martinez. GPS were always in the game though and managed to get a goal back with 10 minutes remaining to make it a nervy ending. The NPSA boys were able to hold their lead though to secure another 2-1 victory putting them in pole position going into their final game.
The third and final game was against FPSC Fury and produced 8 goals total, 6 of which were scored by NPSA. It was an open game with both sides looking to attack from the first minute to the last. The NPSA goals came from Blake Porter (2), Dilon Spahia (2), Adrian Martinez and Ibrahim Burka. It was a great way to end the tournament and, with a 6-2 victory, NPSA secured the Regionals title for the first time in the club’s history.
Head Coach, Adam Nowland had this to say about his team, “All credit to the players for continuing to work hard and maintain their high standards in every game whether it be in the league, State Cup or Regional Championship. The boys have only been together for a relatively short time but their success is a result of what they put in on the training field week in, week out under the guidance of the NPSA professional coaching staff. I am extremely proud to be associated with such a great group of young men and I am excited for what the future holds for them.”
A spot at Nationals in Indianapolis in late July now awaits the NPSA B03 Navy Bellevue team. Huge congratulations to the players, staff and club as a whole for this magnificent achievement.
