(Sounders Women release) The Sounders Women split the weekend games in the tough WPSL NW Division over June 16th and June 18th in the hunt for the 2017 playoffs. The Sounders Women battled ISC Gunners on Friday, June 16th and took a 4-3 decision between the two division heavy weights. NSGSC came to town Sunday and snuck out of Starfire with 3 points by a score of 2-1.
On Friday, the Sounders Women traveled to Issaquah high school to play WPSL NW Division leaders ISC Gunners. At 4-0-2, the Gunners were leading the division with 14 points. In a must win game, the Sounders Women got on the board first with Kaycie Tillman slotting home a goal on a feed from Nia Gordon in the 23rd minute. ISC immediately followed with a goal of their own off a free kick. The teams went into half time at 1-1.

The Gunners scored early in the second half to take the lead but Maddy Schultz found pay dirt knotting the game at 2-2 in the 60th minute. The remaining 30 minutes of the game would see a flurry of chances and entertainment for the fans. In the 65th minute, Gordon found a goal of her own from long distance putting the Sounders Women up 3-2. Dom Bond-Flasza then hammered home goal number four for the Sounders Women. In the 83rd minute, the Gunners got a goal back but the final score would remain 4-3 for the Sounders Women.
Fresh off the win Friday, the Sounders Women welcomed NSGSC to Starfire Sports Stadium for another crucial NW Division game. NSGSC came in organized and bunkered in against a barrage of Sounders Women attacks. Charlotte Williams was active creating chances and Laura Freigang finally found the onion bag in the 15th minute after a nice ball was played in from Shea Moyer. NSGSC responded on a set play in the 18th minute and the game was tied at 1-1. The Sounders Women continued to run at the NSGSC goal but at half time, the score remained 1-1.The second half started much like the first half ended with Schultz, Freigang, Moyer, Tillman, and Gordon launching attack after attack on the NSGSC goal. Williams pulled the strings but plays wouldn’t hit the back of the net. With 20 minutes remaining in the game, NSGSC was awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal on the left side of the field. Anna Miller dove to the right and made a good save but NSGSC players followed the rebound and finished the free kick awarded from the counter attack. The score was now 2-1 for NSGSC. Karli White and the Sounders Women attackers would work to create many more chances to no avail. Final score was 2-1 NSGSC.
At 5-2-0 and 15 points, the Sounders Women lead the WPSL NW Division with ISC Gunners close behind at 14 points and a record of 4-1-2. NSGSC and OSA both have many games in hand so the final stretch of games become very important. The WPSL NW Division playoff race is heating up! The Sounders Women play their final league game on July 7th in a double header with the Sounders U23 team at Sunset Stadium in Sumner. Game time for the women is 5pm against OSA with the Sounders U23 team following at 8pm against the Victoria Highlanders.
