The Sounders U23 team scored three points on a late game winner from Conner Antley on Friday May 19th over rival Portland Timbers U23. The team then succumbed on Sunday, May 21st to Calgary Foothills after outshooting the group from Alberta 11-2. With a close and competitive division, the Sounders U23 will look to gain points out of another tough weekend of games.
The Victoria Highlanders are a team with history having a few incarnations to claim in the landscape. The 2014 version won the PDL Northwest Division and the Western Conference Championship to send yet another PDL Northwest Division team to the PDL national semi-finals. A team from the PDL Northwest Division has made the semifinals every year since 2010. Victoria sit at 1-0 in the division in 2017 after dispatching Lane United in their opening game 4-1 at home. Andrew Ofosu, Owen Pearce, Callum Montogomery, and long-time PDL journeyman, Blair Sturrock all scored for the Highlanders. Dave Dew is the head coach and has put together a strong competitive team for the 2017 campaign and the new Victoria Highlanders.
The Sunday game will feature another Canadian team in TSS Rovers who are new to the PDL scene. The Rovers took over the registration in the PDL from Crossfire Washington and the franchise has hit the ground running and recorded the first club victory over Calgary Foothills on May 19th. Kristian Yli-Hietanan leads the Rovers with two goals on the year. TSS Rovers are lead by Colin Elmes and Will Cromack who passionately work to support the Canadian young player and have reopened Swanguard Stadium to the masses for high level soccer.
With competition being fierce, the weekend games become incrementally important and the Sounders U23 team will look to gain points as they work toward the 2017 PDL playoffs.
