NWPL Recaps: Seattle Stars now 3-0-0 and top of the early season table

The Seattle Stars are leading the way in the early going of the 2017 Northwest Premier League (NWPL) season. Seattle have outscored their foes 7-2 over three matches. Last weekend the Stars beat Yakima United 3-1 in Kent and then shut out WPSS Shock 2-0 in Puyallup.

Seattle Stars 3-1 Yakima United

KENT, WA—Seattle (3-0-0) led much of the way on a first-half goal from Caitlin Garcia. After a stellar triple save from Yakima goalkeeper Addy Eckstrom denied the Stars a larger lead the Hoppers (0-2-1) got level on a team build-up goal finished by Lauryn Peters. It was 1-1 after 75 minutes but then the Stars unleashed some lasers, including a 35-yard blast from Alex Dombeck to make it 2-1. The final score was decided when Breanna Straus volleyed one home in the late stages.

WPSS Shock 0-2 Seattle Stars

PUYALLUP, WA—The next day (Sunday, May 7) the Stars traveled down to Puyallup to play last year’s second place side, the WPSS Shock (0-1-0), at their new home. Seattle’s defense was on point and two goals from Abbey Lincoln made sure Seattle would remain unbeaten. Jocelyn Hanrath got the shut out for Seattle. Kristin Snyder assisted on Lincoln’s first goal in the 36th minute. Jasmine Brilliante assisted on Abbey’s clincher in the 88th minute.

NCW Alliance 1-1 Twin City Union

WENATCHEE, WA—NCW ALLIANCE FC (0-1-1) played their NWPL home opener at the Apple Bowl on Sunday May 7 ending in a 1-1 draw against Twin City Union (1-0-1).

Joslin Lindsay got a goal for Twin City Union just before halftime (44th minute) to give the vistors a 1-0 lead. Alliance were level with their first-ever goal as a club in the 54th minute, scored by Rocio Jimenez.

Yakima United 0-0 Olympic Force

YAKIMA, WA—Yakima United (0-2-1) and Olympic Force (0-1-1) played to a scoreless draw in the Hoppers’ debut at Sozo Sports Complex.

Fuerza FC 2-1 Washington Timbers

EVERETT, WA—Fuerza FC (1-0-0) is off to a winning start after recording a 2-1 decision over the Washington Timbers (1-1-0) on Sunday night May 7 at Goddard Stadium. Kennedy Engelgau gave the Timbers a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. The home side were level in the 42nd minute when Fuerza got a goal from Jalisa Santiago off of an assist from Tia Carillo. The match-winner came on a converted penalty kick in the 88th minute, McKenzie Buell calmly made the shot.
