Here comes the 2017 Premier Development League Northwest Season

PDL Primary ShieldThe 2017 Premier Development League (PDL) season kicks off for the Northwest Division this weekend.

Washington’s team, Sounders U23, begin their regular season on Friday May 19 at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner against the Portland Timbers U23 at 7 PM.

PDL Northwest Division Preview

A total of six teams, including 2016 Western Conference Champion Calgary Foothills FC, will compete in the 2017 Northwest Division.

Four different clubs have won the Northwest Division in the past five seasons, including Foothills FC (2016), Victoria Highlanders FC (2013) and the Sounders FC U23 (2012).

The Portland Timbers U23 are the only current Northwest club to have won a PDL Championship, finishing the 2010 season with a perfect 16-0-0 overall record – the first undefeated champion in PDL history.

Lane United FC, which has helped multiple talented players progress to the professional level over the years, and Vancouver-based club TSS FC Rovers will also participate in the 2017 regular season.

Among the many standout alumni to play in the Northwest Division include Newcastle United FC fullback DeAndre Yedlin, New York City FC forward Khiry Shelton, San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Fatai Alashe, Chicago Fire defender Matt Polster and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 defender Dominick Zator.
