(Sounders U23 release) The Sounders U23 welcome back Adam Jones and add Sergio Rivas along with Nathan Aune for the 2017 PDL season. Jones returns after a stellar fall season at Simon Fraser University, with Rivas and Aune coming to the Rave Green from Seattle University.
Jones enjoyed another strong fall season at Simon Fraser, taking home 2016 GNAC Player of the Year honors along with being a First Team All GNAC Selection. Jones finished with 10 goals and nine assists for the Clan.
Rivas, an Albuquerque, New Mexico native, recorded five assists for the Seattle University Redhawks, who lead the WAC in offense, while earning All WAC First Team honors.
Aune, a 6’4” central defender from Arlington, Washington, also finished his 2016 campaign for the Redhawks with an All WAC 2nd Team Selection.
All three players come to the Sounders U23 with aspirations of the next level as they prepare for the fall college seasons.
“Our goal is to help as many players move on to the professional level as possible,” said Darren Sawatzky, Sounders U23 Head Coach and General Manager. “We had seven former Sounders U23 players taken in the 2017 MLS Super Draft, so we are retooling with some players familiar with our program and with many new faces to our team. The goal is to maximize individual player development and win in the process.”
The Sounders U23 kick off the 2017 campaign with a US Open Cup matchup on May 10th at Seattle Memorial Stadium versus NPSL side OSA FC. The regular season PDL schedule starts for the Sounders U23 on May 19th at home versus the Portland Timbers U23. Please find more information and tickets for your young guns at www.soundersu23.com.
