TACOMA, WA—The last weekend of Western Indoor Soccer League regular season play takes place on Saturday February 11 with two playoff spots still up for grabs.
Saturday, February 11, 2017
Snohomish Skyhawks v. Tacoma Stars Reserves
7 PM – Snohomish Soccer Dome – Snohomish
Olympic Force v. Oly Town Artesians
7:30 PM – Olympic Sports Center – Bremerton
Bellingham United v. Sporting Everett
7:30 Pm – Bellingham Sportsplex – Bellingham
Bellingham United has clinched first place and the Olympic Force have clinched second as last years two league finalists will host playoff matches on February 18. The rest of the playoff scene is less clear. All four clubs have pathways into the playoffs, some needing help and others needing simply to win.
The Snohomish Skyhawks currently sit in third place with 11 points. On Saturday they host Tacoma, who are in the fourth place (10 points) at 7 PM at the Snohomish Soccer Dome. It’s a rescheduled match from earlier in the year. It will be just like a playoff match, as both sides can clinch a spot with a win and also could drop completely out if they lose. Win and you’re in, lose and either side would need favorable results from elsewhere. The Skyhawks and Stars can still make the playoffs if either loses or they tie, and Oly Town loses or ties at Olympic.
The Oly Town Artesians (fifth place, 10 points) hold no tiebreakers with clubs above them, so they will need to win at Olympic Force (already clinched second place) to make the playoffs. If they can do it, the resulting 13 standings points would get them in.
Sporting Everett clings to life with a trip to Bellingham this weekend. If Everett can upset the Hammers and reach 11 standings points, then they have a shot at fourth place. They would need Tacoma to lose to Snohomish and Oly Town to lose to Olympic.
TIEBREAKERS: The league will use the following, in order listed below, to break standings ties: 1. Season series results 2. Season series goal differential 3. Season series away goals 4. Total wins in league 5. Total goals in league 6. Goal differential in league.
Bellingham United has clinched the WISL top seed thanks to their goal differential (#2) over the Olympic Force, at +4 (17-13).The Force have clinched second seed thanks to their 18 standings points.
The Snohomish Skyhawks hold the tiebreaker over Oly Town Artesians thanks to sweeping them, 7-5 & 9-7. The Skyhawks also hold the tiebreaker over Sporting Everett thanks to a season series win with 7-6 and 5-5 results. Earlier in the year the Skyhawks drew 4-4 with the Stars in Tacoma.
The Tacoma Stars Reserves hold the tiebreaker over Oly Town thanks to away goals in a tight 5-6 & 4-3 series. The Stars hold the tiebreaker over Sporting Everett thanks to 7 away goals in a 7-6 win at the Everett Soccer Arena.
The Oly Town Artesians hold the tiebreaker over Sporting Everett thanks to a season series win with scores of 7-7 and 8-6.
