(Sounders Women release) Another year brings another great opportunity for friendship and a connection that lasts a lifetime. Each year, the Sounders Women program brings in players from around the country to compete for the squad. Host families take these players in for a few months and the lifetime friendship starts. The Sounders Women are looking for host families to house young women this summer from May through late July.
The Sounders Women have operated a women’s soccer team for nearly two decades and in that time, many incredible players and staff have come through the program. Current US Women’s U20 National Team Coach, Michelle French spent time as a Sounders Women coach along with Women’s National Team players Alex Morgan, Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe, and others as players. Kim Calkins, a former professional player, coach, and Washington Youth Soccer Technical Director serves as the head coach.
“Living with the Schatz family became a home away from home and the 3 months I spent with them were some of the best times. They really became my family and I even spent Thanksgiving with them this year. It was such an amazing experience and made my time in Seattle even better,” says Ashley Clarke, a 2015 Sounders Women player who spent this past professional season playing for Tierps IF in Sweden.
As part of the Player First development initiative at Sounders Women, the Host Family Program is much more than a place to stay for the summer, it’s the start of something much bigger and more meaningful.
“We see the Host Family Program as a benefit to the community because these young role models come into our area and influence young ladies in a great way,” says Cliff McElroy, Sounders Women Co-owner, “And while they are here, these players get the high level training and competition at the amateur level which keeps the development of the women’s game advancing.”
The Sounders Women are currently taking applications for host families for the 2017 season. Please direct any questions you have to Darren Sawatzky at DarrenS@Soundersu23.com after reviewing the Host Family Application attached.
