WISL Update: Indoors up for grabs at midseason

It’s really true in the case of the 2016-17 Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) season. Anyone can win it.

The six-club league battles over 10 regular season matches to decide 4 playoff spots. Then the semis and Final are on back-to-back weekends in late February.

2-months-table

The Skyhawks have only played 4 matches…and Sporting Everett has been close each time out and does have a big win over the Olympic Force.

Bellingham United’s place at the top seems in peril. The Hammers have played 5 matches. The 3 sides behind them have all played just 4, and are 2 or 3 points from catching the defending champs.

Still, it’s all about finishing at least 1 or 2 so you can host a playoff match. In the WISL’s two seasons of play, the team with the best regular season record and home field advantage throughout the playoffs— has won the trophy both times. The quirks of home indoor pitches and surfaces make being at home all the more important.
