Catching up with NWAC Players of the Week

The Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) has completed a month of soccer competition for women and men in the 2016 season. Below is a look back at the NWAC Players of the Week so far. (Graphics and releases from the NWAC. Cover photo – Shoreline v. Peninsula, by Wilson Tsoi, SCC Athletics.)

Kyle Weller – SW Oregon, Freshman, Goalkeeper

The 6’2” product of Wood River High School in Hailey, Idaho turned in 32 saves in two matches last week at the NWAC Fall Festival. His incredible 22 save count during the match against Columbia Basin kept the Lakers in the match and led to a 1-1 draw.

Claire Nelson – Everett, Sophomore, Forward

Nelson turned in a great weekend for the Trojans scoring a pair of goals in each of her two matches to earned her 8 pts and help lift EVCC to victories over Clark and Bellevue.

Her four goals on the early season is a great start for the former Cascade High School standout from the Everett area. She tallied a total of 8 last season.

Quinn Landrud – Pierce, Freshman, Defender

Quinn Landrud, Thomas Jefferson High School/Federal Way, WA ,scored a pair of goals to help the Raiders to a 3-0 win over SW Oregon and a tie vs. Chemeketa. Down 1-0 to the Storm, his goal in the 76th minute lifted Pierce to a 1-1 draw.

AdriAnna Simmons – Wenatchee Valley, Sophomore, Goalkeeper

AdriAnna Simmons, Ephrata High School/ Ephrata, WA, recorded 17 saves and a pair of shutouts to help the Knights a pair of scoreless draws against Whatcom and Green River. Both schools peppered the Wenatchee goal (WCC-8, GRC-9), but Simmons was impenetrable.

Mohamed Elmoghrbi – Edmonds, Sophomore, Forward

Mohamed Elmoghrbi, Jamal al Nasir/Tripoli, Libya, tallied a hattrick vs. Everett in Edmonds’ 4-1 win over the Trojans. Farajallah is now leading the NWAC in scoring with 16 points off of seven goals and two assists.

Molly Joyce – Clark, Freshman, Forward

Molly Joyce, Brookings High School/Waimea, Kauai, HI, registered six goals and an assist in three wins last week over Walla Walla, Columbia Basin and Chemeketa. Her hat-trick vs Chemeketa has lifted her to second place in scoring with 15 points overall.

Jesus Delgado
Columbia Basin, Freshman, Forward

Jesus Delgado, Eisenhower High School/ Yakima, WA, scored three consecutive goals in the first 45 minutes to help the Hawks to a 3-1 win over ninth-ranked Spokane.

Delgado is now tied for fifth place overall in points with 11 on five goals and an assist.

Anna Gentile
Tacoma, Sophomore, Midfielder

Anna Gentile, Olympic High School/Port Orchard, WA, recorded a goal and an assist in each of Tacoma’s wins this week. She scored the game tying goal and the go ahead assist in a 3-1 win over Bellevue and tallied the game winning goal in the 85th minute in a 2-1 win over Lower Columbia.

Gentile is now tied for 7th in total points with 15 on five goals and five assists.
