BELLEVUE, WA— (FC Bellevue release) FC Bellevue today announces that its 13-year-old player Annika Daniel has been selected to the U-15 Girl’s National Youth soccer team for Trinidad and Tobago (TNT). As a member of the TNT National Youth team, Annika will participate with her new team in the upcoming Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) U-15 tournament in Orlando, Florida starting on August 9 of this year.
Annika is currently a member of FC Bellevue and the Puget Sound Premier League (PSPL) SURF State Academy in Seattle, Washington where she has played for the past two seasons. “Annika is not just a talented player, she also works extremely hard to perfect her skills and her knowledge of the game,” said her coach Darrel Marcelle, who was also a National Youth Team Player for Trinidad and Tobago. Both Coach Marcelle and current TNT National Women’s Team player Kennya Cordner recommended Annika for the call up to the Trinidad and Tobago National Youth Team.
In preparation for playing for the TNT National Youth Team, Annika recently attended a residential camp in St. George, Virginia, where she had the opportunity to receive coaching from US National Team Coaching staff members Dave Simeone and Karla Thompson. “The hot weather conditions and level of coaching at the camp were exactly what Annika needed to prepare for the CONCACAFU tournament,” said her father, Sheldon Daniel.
Although Annika is a current U-13 player with FC Bellevue, she often plays up at U-17 based on her technical ability. Annika is one of seven PSPL State Academy players that play for FC Bellevue, and she will be the first National level player the club has produced thus far. “She is a leader on and off the field and is clearly a star in our program,” said Coach Marcelle.
Annika’s athleticism follows her family heritage. Her grandmother, Gemma Daniel, was a field hockey National team senior player at the age of 16 for Trinidad. Additionally, her father played for St Anthony’s College and Semi Professionally in Trinidad before moving to the US.
Coach Marcelle is the current Director at FC Bellevue, a second year Premier club. Current US National team players Andy Sullivan and Bill Hamid have also been coached and trained by Coach Marcelle, in the coaching style that FC Bellevue follows. “Annika’s tenacity and dedication to learning the game sets an example for all of our young players in FC Bellevue,” said Coach Marcelle. “I see tremendous opportunities for her future.”
