EPLWA: Yakima strikes back in Central Washington derby

EPLWA Logo-07-600YAKIMA, WA— Yakima United FC struck back against their northern rivals Wenatchee FC in the latest match in the Evergreen Premier League’s Central Washington derby on Friday night at Marquette Stadium. The 4-0 triumph was the first-ever win for the Hoppers over the Capitals.

Going into Friday’s match Wenatchee FC was 4-0-1 all time against Yakima United. They won the first three matches between 2014-15 and then the clubs drew 3-3 in their last match last year. This season the Capitals took a 5-2 win over the Hoppers at the Apple Bowl.

YUFCCREST_WHITE_300_WIDEPure striker Hector Valdovinos was the difference this night. He’s Yakima’s all time leading scorer and also the second leading scorer in EPLWA history. Hector scored a brace for the Hoppers.

The Hoppers struck twice in a 2-minute span in the first half. Missael Lopez made it 1-0 in the 19th when he parted WFC defenders and delivered a near post goal. Valdovinos got the first of his brace in the 21st when he shrugged off a swarm of Capitals in the box to turn and finish.

In the 56th it was 3-0 Hoppers when Hector finished his brace in similar style from 3 yards out. The final was 4-0 when William Pineda made up for an earlier open chance by finishing this one ahead of the Wenatchee defense in the 78th.

WFC_gradient_logo_pngIn previous encounters the Capitals had outscored the Hoppers 16-6. In 2014 Wenatchee swept Yakima 3-1 and 4-0. In 2015 Wenatchee beat the Hoppers 1-0 and YUFC lost a 2-0 lead in an eventual 3-3 draw. On May 8 of this season at the Apple Bowl Wenatchee took a 5-2 win.

Hector Valdovinos (recently honored by the WSASA) has now scored 3 goals this season, bringing his total over three years in the EPLWA to 20.
