SUMNER, WA–– (U23 release) The Sounders U-23 defeated the Kitsap Pumas 2-0 Friday night in their 7th league game of the PDL season. Thanks to two late first half goals, the Sounders U-23 earned three points, bringing their season total to 12. Sounders players Jose Aguinaga and Guillermo Delgado scored the goals.

In the 37th minute, Chris Wingate split a ball from the 50-yard-line past the Kitsap defenders to Delgado who was left unmarked on his run. With only the Kitsap keeper to beat, Delgado dribbled around Matt Grosey, and slotted his shot home to take the lead 1-0.

Just three minutes later in the 40th minute, the Sounders executed a great combination play that involved Delgado back-heeling the ball to Aguinaga through traffic inside the box. Aguinaga then hit it first time into the back of the net bringing the Sounders’ lead up 2-0 just before the half.

The Sounders U-23 were able to preserve their clean sheet in the 69th minute when keeper Jeff Caldwell saved a Pumas PK attempt by Cory Keitz. The foul was given up by Collyns Ambassa, but Caldwell saved the day with his outstretched left hand. The Sounders U-23 were able to hold on despite the Pumas desperate attempts and went on to the 2-0 victory.

The Sounders play again at home this Sunday against Victoria Highlanders FC at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Chevrolet Stadium in Sumner. This will be Sounders U-23 second-to-last home match of the 2016 PDL regular season. For tickets visit SoundersU23.com.
