It was an energetic game from both teams and an entertaining contest from a neutral perspective. Both clubs showed a commitment to playing on the floor, combining well and creating sustainable opportunities around goal.

After a couple of early corner kicks each way, teams traded multi-pass moves through midfield that finished with shots. The Pumas had the majority of shots throughout the game, but the Sounders defense didn’t give them any clear looks at goal from short range.

The tension mounted as the game came close to the 90-minute mark, just as it did 10 days prior when the Pumas and Sounders met in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Both coaches began making substitutions around the hour mark, looking for fresh legs to change the game.

Finally, after taking a pass from Jesús Sánchez just outside the penalty area, Madison made the difference. He took a touch and fired a right-footed shot into the left side of the net, sending the crowd of 891 into celebrations.

Despite some late pressure from Seattle, the Pumas held strong at the back, giving goalkeeper Matt Grosey his third clean sheet of the season. The last four matches between the Pumas and Sounders have now finished 1-0, accentuating the intensity of the rivalry.

Kitsap now sits on two points in the PDL Northwest Division table. The Pumas visit Sacramento Republic of the USL on Wednesday in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Third Round. League play resumes north of the border on June 5, when the Pumas visit the Victoria Highlanders.
