The ladies opened their inaugural campaign last weekend with a dominant performance against Yakima United. Standout striker Megan Lindsay was too much for the Hoppers, tallying a hat-trick and an assist in the first half of the 5-2 victory before moving to midfield at halftime.

As has been the history with the Men’s First Team, the women’s side will see players joining the group as the season rolls along as more become available. Joining the group this week are Clemson grad Savannah Coiner and local products McKenna Stocker and Kasey Rubosky. Coiner played under former Shadow General Manager (PDL era) Jeff Robbins, who is an assistant at Clemson.

The Shadow men head into their home opener on the heels of a scoreless draw against the Hoppers last week in Yakima. The defense goes into the match on an eight-game streak going back to last season of not allowing more than one goal in a match (5 in 8 games). Returning this week to the bolster the defensive unit is goalkeeper Tony Watters, who split time in goal last season, and defender Brady Ulen.

Ulen returns from Western Washington with his former NIC teammate Adam Talley, who was among the team’s leading scorers last season. Local product Matt Bray also returns to the team this week.

A newcomer to the squad, but a longtime Shadow family member, literally, is Cameron Bushey. The 2011 Whitworth grad is the son of former Shadow head coach Sean Bushey – who managed the PDL men’s team in the 90s and coached/managed within the youth arm – and grew up in the club. Like his father, Bushey also coaches in the club and recently helped guide the G03A girls team to Washington’s U12 President’s Cup title in relief for Shadow Women’s Team head coach Kevin Moon.
