Evergreen Premier League: South Sound hosts Vancouver on Sunday in Lakewood

GoalWA-LogogoalWA.net’s Premier Partnership with the Evergreen Premier League continues in 2016 as we report on the soccer revolution taking place right here in Washington.

The “EPLWA” is an elite adult premier league for players, coaches, and fans. They run the whole thing out of Bellingham and provide some of the best soccer you are going to see locally with 8 clubs that are taking hold in communities around the state.

The Evergreen Premier League has garnered 4th Division status in US Soccer. Since being founded in 2013 the EPLWA has inspired numerous other ‘state leagues’ to form around the USA.

The EPLWA season starts Sunday with four May Day matches. Below is the second in a series of previews on May 1st’s big kick off.

SOUTH SOUND FC v. VANCOUVER VICTORY FC
Sunday May 1, 2016 – Harry Lang Stadium – 4 PM – Ticket Info
-DOUBLE HEADER- SSFC Women (NWPL) v. Twin City Union @ 1 PM

ssfc-500The South Sound Shock have been close the last two years, but have finished second both times. They have had just enough to top Vancouver Victory, but not quite enough to topple two-time defending champions Spokane Shadow. South Sound did bring home a nice prize last year, though. They won the U-23 USASA National Title.

Vancouver Victory got around a bit more, playing in a tournament, hosting local school Clark College and recently traveling to Corvallis for a pretty solid result – a 2-1 win over the Pac-12 Oregon State Beavers.

Historically, it’s always been tough for Vancouver to find goals against South Sound. The two first met in May of 2014 in a match that went to the Shock, 4-1. The second leg in 2014 also went to South Sound as they posted a 2-0 win at Vancouver.

EPLWA Logo-07-600In 2015 the Shock continued to shut down the Victory in their next meeting, giving up just one goal in a 2-1 home triumph. In the return engagement the Shock defense did one better, taking a 1-0 shutout win in Vancouver.

The Shock are 4-0-0 all-time against the club that has finished each season just one natch below them. The South Sound goal lead in the series is 9-2.

The match is the second half of a doubleheader at Harry Lang. The South Sound Women of the new Northwest Premier League (NWPL) will host the Twin City Union at 1 PM.
