SEATTLE, WA–— (club release) Seattle Reign FC today announced its plans to participate in Water1st’s “Carry5 Walk for Water” event on May 15 at Seattle Center. As part of its growing partnership with Water1st, Reign FC will rally its fans and supporters with the goal of raising $3,000 for Water1st.
Water1st International is a Seattle-based non-profit organization that helps communities in less affluent countries implement water, sanitation, and hygiene education projects. Reign FC Co-Owner Teresa Predmore, along with Reign FC defenders Elli Reed and Lauren Barnes, recently traveled to Ethiopia with Water1st. During their visit they were able to see the massive impact that Water1st has made through its tireless efforts.
“Water1st is able to transform lives through projects that provide easy access to clean water,” said Teresa Predmore. “While there is an obvious and immediate impact on the health of communities served by these projects, the longer-term implications are even more profound: traditionally, women and girls are responsible for spending hours each day collecting water for their villages, robbing them of opportunities for employment and education. The work Water1st performs breaks this cycle, empowering women and girls in a manner that can change the trajectory of their lives. It is an inspiring organization that we are proud to support.”
Participants in the Carry5 Walk will carry up to five gallons of water for five kilometers in support of 200 million women and children in Ethiopia, Honduras, and Bangladesh who spend as much as five hours each day collecting water (much of which is unsanitary) for their families.
Those who wish to get involved can join Reign FC players, owners, and staff for the event on May 15 and are invited to help the club reach its goal of raising $3,000.
The cost to join a team is $10. Participants who fundraise $100 by Friday, May 13 will receive two free tickets to the May 14 match against Portland Thorns FC at Memorial Stadium. Participants can carry up to five gallons of water for five kilometers, or as much as they are able.
Funds raised will support sustainable water, toilet, and hygiene projects for communities in the three developing countries.
