Two players out of Federal Way are getting looks that could lead to overseas playing opportunities, says the Federal Way Mirror.
Federal Way soccer player earns opportunity with Philippines national team
Blue has been a familiar color to Karina Provo while playing soccer.
She wore the royal blue of Federal Way High School during the fall, and she’s been wearing the baby blue of Washington Premier Football Club since their season began in January.
Provo is hoping to add a third blue kit to her wardrobe: the Philippine Football Federation.
She is currently at a scouting camp for their national team being held in Corona, California.
“Now that I start thinking about it, it’s like a dream,” said Provo, a junior at Federal Way High School. “I’ve never imagined me doing this. I always said I want to become a professional soccer player, but then I was like, ‘Oh no, it’s not ever gonna happen.’ But then this, this is pretty close to it. So it’s crazy.”
Thomas Jefferson goalkeeper earns opportunity in England
Thomas Jefferson High School is widely known for having one of the best soccer programs in the state historically. Multiple professional players and numerous state championships add to its rich soccer tradition.
Hunter Bowman, a senior and Jefferson’s current goalkeeper, is the latest member of the soccer team to add to the legacy of Raiders soccer after accepting an opportunity to continue his career and education in Leeds, United Kingdom, at the Richmond International Academic and Soccer Academy (RIASA).
“It’s just a great honor,” Bowman said. “It shows that it pays off if you work hard, show up early to practice and do everything to make yourself better at what you do.”
