VANCOUVER, WA— (club release) The Washington Timbers are excited to host the 2016 Northwest Cup featuring men’s teams from Oregon State University, University of Washington, Gonzaga, and the University of Portland. The event will be held April 16, 2016 at the Harmony Sports Complex.
Oregon State coach Steve Simmons is excited about the event, “These games are key spring fixtures for us. When you add to the fact that the matches are northwest rivalries, it adds a bit of spice to an offseason game. I’m also pleased we get to showcase NCAA Division Men’s Soccer in a soccer rich community like Vancouver.”
This year’s tournament is being held in conjunction with the opening day for recreational soccer in SW Washington and will feature mini-matches during halftime. “I’m very excited about this opportunity for our kids and for soccer in Southwest Washington,” says Jeff Castagnola, Washington Timbers FC Director of Recreation. “To provide them access to division one soccer right at Harmony is a really big deal. To be able to share this with our fellow clubs Salmon Creek, Pacific, and Vancouver West is also very rewarding.”
